Harry Strachan is a Director Emeritus of Mesoamerica Partners living in Costa Rica and working primarily in the Mesoamerica region. Mesoamerica is a private equity firm with roots in strategy consulting and M&A advisory services. Mesoamerica Foundation channels part of the profits and our resources to support pro bono efforts mainly in the area of education. Harry was a partner of Bain & Co from 1979 to 1998 and continues active part time with Bain and Bain Capital in new partner training and Latin American activities. Harry was a business school professor at INCAE and the Harvard Business School from 1970-1979 and Rector of INCAE in the 1981/2 transition. In his semi-retirement, a significant portion of Harry’s time is devoted to pro bono activities. He is President of the Strachan Foundation he established in honor of his parents and grandparents and advisor to ESEN, the Hospital Clinica Biblica and other NGOs. He teaches, moderates, and does public speaking for INCAE’s, the Central America Leadership Initiative and executive groups like YPO. Much of his work in Latin America has involved advising Family Business Groups. An early academic book was The Role of Family Business Groups in Economic Development. In the last 10 years he has written three memoir-type books: INCAE Memories 1970-1981; Bain Stories From the Early Years: The Education of a Consultant; and Finding a Path: Stories from My Life. Harry was born in Costa Rica of missionary parents. He got his B.A. in Literature from Wheaton College (Ill.), a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a D.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. He is married, has two children and five grandsons. His hobbies are golf, poker and reading.
