What is Change.org?

Change.org gives people opportunities to connect around issues of personal importance and take actions that can significantly improve their communities. On the platform, people everywhere are starting campaigns, mobilising supporters, and working with decision makers to drive solutions. As a result of the platform, decision makers at the highest levels of government and business are engaging with their constituents and consumers.

How was it initially funded?

The combination of $25 million worth of funding from a large group of individuals, a $15 million investment from Omidyar Network and donations from its 35 million users, has allowed Change.org to grow significantly since launch in 2007.

What has it accomplished?

In the UK, Change.org have seen victorious results on topics such as the sale of eggs from caged hens in Morrison’s and Asda to helping an autistic child get the medical help he needed. Overseas,  the platform played an important role in getting US Citizens imprisoned in Kuwait released, getting the AP to no longer use the term “child prostitute” and to force the US State department to release their strategy to end child marriage.

What’s next?

Omidyar Network’s investment is intended to help Change.org continue to expand its empowerment tools internationally while innovating on new products that offer the disruptive potential for accelerating social impact.
